VIDEO: Now even the Greeks want to join Ukip, says Farage as his latest speech causes stir

MY FIRST speech of 2014 in what the European Parliament jokingly call a “debate” was to the Greek Prime Minister Mr Samaras on Wednesday.

The Greeks have taken over the six-month rotating presidency of the European Council, despite the fact they aren’t even allowed to run their own country.Mr Samaras gave a speech to the MEPs in Strasbourg in which he said he represented the “sovereign will of the Greek people”.

Well, I’m not sure that’s quite the case when the Greek people are bound to the will of people in foreign countries.

So I told the Greek PM all this in the way I like to do these things at the European Parliament: I gave it to him straight.

And since then, I’ve been inundated with requests from Greek media outlets wanting interviews and broadcasts.

Some, of course, are questioning how dare I say such mean things to their Prime Minister.

But the majority seem to be coming to me for an alternative voice to the political establishment in Greece which is either tied to the Euro or dangerously extreme.

Most meaningful to me, though, are the emails, tweets and private messages I am getting from the Greek people thanking me for what I said in Strasbourg that day.

Just as Ukip is detested by the establishment and gets support from real people in the UK, that same enthusiasm is spreading across Europe.

Our Head Office reported to me that they’ve taken many calls from Greeks wanting to join Ukip.

We have an overseas branch, we are delighted to tell them.

I thought my Express Online readers would like to see the speech, so here is a video of me in action and below it you can read what I said.

And to all those Greeks out there, do come and sign up!

TRANSCRIPT OF MY SPEECH

Well I must congratulate you Mr Samaras for getting the Greek Presidency off to such a cracking start.

Your overnight successful negotiation in the trialogue of MiFID I am sure will have them dancing in the streets of Athens. No matter that your country, very poorly advised by Goldman Sachs, joined a currency that it was never suited to. No matter that 30% people are unemployed, that 60%  of youth are unemployed, that a Neo-Nazi party is on the march, that there was a terrorist attack on the German embassy. No don’t worry about all that because the trialogue on MiFID has been a success. And in many ways it sums up the two Europes.

The Europe that is talked about in here by the dreamers who want to impose a new United States of Europe with a new identity and its currency, and then the real world out there.

And you come here Mr Samaras and tell us that you represent the ‘sovereign will of the of the Greek people’. Well I am sorry but you are not in charge of Greece, and I suggest you rename and rebrand your party. It is called New Democracy; I suggest you call it No Democracy because Greece is now under foreign control.

You can’t make any decisions, you have been bailed out, and you have surrendered democracy, the thing your country invented in the first place. And you can’t admit that joining the Euro was a mistake because Mr Papandreou did that didn’t he. He even said there should be a referendum in Greece, and within 48 hours the unholy Trinity that now run this European Union had him removed and replaced by an ex-Goldman Sachs employee puppet.

We are run now by big business, big banks, and in the shape of Mr Barroso, big bureaucrats.

Actually, that is what these European elections are really going to be all about. It is going to be a battle of national democracy versus EU state bureaucracy.

Whatever you say in this chamber the people out there don’t want a United States of Europe, they want a Europe of sovereign states trading and working together and I believe the European elections are going to mark a watershed.

Up until now, everybody has thought, as much as they do not like the development of the European Union that it was inevitable. That myth of inevitability will be shattered in the European elections this year. Thank you.
